Artist Spotlight - Analy Diego
Meet San Antonio artist, interior designer, and local professor Analy Diego. We are honored to carry her work at Feliz Modern, and when you #ShopFeliz you are supporting local artists just like her. Read more about her below:
Analy Diego’s work is a reflection of pop culture, architecture and design. It is a vessel for sharing her views, ideas and personal stories relative to her community. Analy is an Interior Designer, professor and Program Coordinator for Interior Design in the College of Architecture, Construction and Planning at The University of Texas at San Antonio, and an artist. As an artist, Analy has dabbled in many traditional mediums but has found technology to be her tool of choice. Her graphic illustrations are meticulously rendered with emphasis on color, pattern, and proportions.
When did you begin creating art?
I was six years old when I started painting (I won my first drawing competition at 4, but official training started at 6). Watercolor was the first medium I worked with, followed by acrylics, oils, and now vector (digital) art.
Tell us about any influences:
I’m immensely influenced by the built environment, color, and people.
Tell us something interesting in your life (achievements, funny story, places travelled, etc.)
I dare to say that I think my life in general has been interesting. All places traveled, people met, and educational/social experiences I’ve had over time have brought me to where I am. Today, I am at the highest level of professional inspiration I’ve ever been in, thanks to all the things I’ve seen, lived and felt throughout my life.
That said, Barcelona is my favorite city in the world! So much history, incredible architecture, great wine, and even greater people live there!
What plans do you have for the future of your art?
To start working with mixed media a little more. I want to achieve more depth with my pieces by layering different mediums.
Also, I want to collaborate with an architect on a building, a furniture brand (chair or light fixture collection).
Lastly, I want to create wearable pieces of art in the near future!
Do you have any good advice for emerging artists?
Follow your gut. Not everyone will like your art, but the ones that do will make the effort (and the passion) worthwhile.
I have a few:
“Don’t let criticism get to your head, and don’t let compliments get to your heart.”- Anonymous
“The idea is not to live forever, but to create something that will.” – Andy Warhol
“He who works with his hands is a laborer. He who works with his hands and his head is a craftsman. He who works with his hands and his head and his heart is an artist.”- St. Francis of Assisi
I only read Interior Design, Fashion and Architecture magazines/books at the moment! I like them all, they constantly inspire me. But I particularly enjoy learning about Bauhaus design.
I have too many! But here’s a few: The Help, Fight Club, anything Tarantino, Scent of a Woman, and all classic Disney movies (Little Mermaid, Cinderella, Dumbo, The Lion King, etc.).
